Inflating The Balloon....

‘Inflating The Balloon’ is a theory conceived by my friend Rajiv & Me one evening at Barista while sipping cappuccino. The theory states or rather goes on say that every individual feeds his brain with ideas or passive ambition and dreams, which he wants to fulfill or achieve, like inflating a balloon. I mention passive here because it’s not strong enough to come to the forefront. It mostly takes a back seat, never to see the daylight and occupies most of your brain.
Then one day u decide to take a plunge into that uncharted territory. If u r remotely successful, u tie a knot to that balloon signifying success or else u keep watering u r ideas taking it to a new pseudo level, thus filling air in the balloon.
REALITY CHECK, One fine day the balloon bursts which brings u back to earth. U accept the reality and continue to live the so called mundane life.
Then there is another kind of people whose balloon never inflates. Their life denotes a pretty much D.C line,no crests or troughs. A balanced life I guess.

In effect every one is given that balloon in life .So are you tying a knot or ….?

Get Inspired….its easy & cheap. Planning to make a film, but nothing original is striking you……Chill !!! Go buy some Dvds of acclaimed directors, a truckload of popcorn and get inspired. Bingo!! We have a release in 9 mths, which is apparently different and interesting.
I think originality cease to exist in the Indian film industry. Its always a rip off masquerading as inspiration that matters and surprisingly it is able to rake in the moolah.
The filmmaker or the producers are not to blamed entirely. It takes 2 to Tango. We are equally responsible having accepted the crap that’s being churned day in day out and above all we are paying to see it.
It’s like smoking a cigi, we are actually buying death. We need to reject and stop watching movies which does not deserve a viewership. Once such movies start tanking and make losses regularly, the filmmakers will get wiser and start to make original and/or good content films.

‘Original Content is the King’ its high time we realize that.

Piracy - A Blessing In Disguise ???

General take on Piracy …’Piracy is bad, should be stopped.’ Agreed… but not completely. I feel piracy has done its bit for the spread of knowledge and information. Piracy acts as a stepping-stone for acquisition of knowledge which would otherwise have been difficult to seek. A classic example is the Windows O.S. Majority of people have actually learned computers on pirated version. Thanks to piracy they are now computer literate. Once their literacy starts to pay them, they realize that harmful effects of piracy and shift to the licensed version. Had it not been for piracy we would have lost one computer literate, in effect the sale of on licensed version of Windows O.S.
Piracy can only do so much harm, but it can do a little good too. Imagine buying those expensive cd’s to sample songs of genres which you think you like. Now piracy actually helps you to decide what you like. A true music lover will always will go for the original once he knows what he likes and what he wants.
We need to get out of our narrow confines that piracy is out to ruin us. Constructive approach to piracy is the Mantra.

Politicians – A Misunderstood Lot …..or Are They Living Up To Their Reputation.

Politician anywhere in this world are always at the receiving end. If you have no one to blame then blame it on the politicians. I think we have taken the politicians for granted, having a preset notion that they are no good and a corrupt lot.
Lets face it, corruption is everywhere and you cannot escape corruption in this capitalistic age. I would accept any politician and consider him good if he is reasonably corrupt to some threshold value, but at the same time is able to give back equally to the society and add to the upliftment of the people.We have everything to gain if a politician is able to achieve that. An idealistic approach today takes us nowhere.
I strongly believe politics is a great career and every young mind should give it a serious thought.

A corrupt Politician is still better than a corrupt Doctor.

AB must be endorsing nearly every brand under the sun. He definitely has taken a cue from Shah Rukh Khan who is a fabulous marketing person himself.
What AB needs to realize is that, there is a certain value attached to every celebrity. People and fans like you for a certain reason because they feel you epitomize that value. If you dilute that value, you start eroding your fan base.
By mindless endorsement of products you may only earn maximum eyeballs, but the respect takes a severe battering.

AB you are the best and we love u for that............ Just don’t change it for petty gains.

The ‘a’ is not a typo error but a desperate attempt to segregate the Page 3 guys from the so-called Page 3 Nomads. Anyone aspiring to be on Page 3 has to earn it. You cannot be one of them just because u r seen in some obscure party or a label launch.

Page ‘3a’ is a perfect tag for such aspirants …work your way towards Page 3 and get noticed for the right reasons.

Indian Advertising.....Creativity Lost ?

Creativity is on the decline in the Indian Advertising scene. Ads today are full of celebrities who after a couple of Ads have no clue which products they are actually endorsing. Creativity has taken a backseat just to accommodate celebrity faces. There is a forced attempt by the creative to get an emotional edge in every Ad. They fail to understand that pseudo emotions just don’t work.
The Ads seen on television today in no way qualifies as benchmark for young budding creative copywriters. There are no serious Ads, which can actually inspire someone. I think the gap between what the client wants, the stuff that creative has to offer and what an end user expects to see is way too large and needs to be bridged. After watching the new Pepsi commercial featuring SRK, I ‘am planning to quit drinking Pepsi. I don’t want to be associated with a brand, which has no Ad sense.

I wonder if creativity and client requirement can ever go hand in hand. What do u think?

Is Selection of Paheli for Oscar Justified ?

Hi,
Paheli for Oscars from India, Is that the best India could do ?. The Truth is , India has stopped producing quality movies. We just make movies so that it runs for 5 days and with the advent of multiplexers , the movie becomes a hit. Money recovered ... make another crap. This cycle continues. Will someone ever break the shackles and make a movie that can really be counted.
There were just not enough movies in the basket to select from which could be sent to the Oscars. Again there was 'BLACK' which was a strong contender , but didn't make it. Let us for once send movies for their value perse rather then trying show India.
